Mazdaspeed 3 Performance

The 2010 MAZDASPEED3 is equipped with a 2.3 liter turbo critically acclaimed MZR Direct Injection Spark Ignition (DISI) engine. AutoWorld Ward was named among the 10 best engines for 3 consecutive years, 2006-2008.

The MZR 2.3-liter is a (2261 cc) double overhead camshaft (DOHC), 16-valve DISI with a compression ratio of 9.5:1. It produces 263 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm. A Warner-Hitachi K04 turbo produces about 1 bar of boost, which equates to approximately 14.7 psi. It has a fuel economy rating of 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

The model 2008 and 2009 MAZDA3 comes with the same engine but without the turbocharger. It produces 156 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 150 lb-ft at 4500 rpm with a fuel economy of 24 city and 27 highway.

Mazda revisions to the drivetrain to 2010 are shafts of equal length and a limited slip differential cone type (LSD). These changes were a cure for the tendency of previous models for wheel spin, wheel hop and torque. In addition, these changes have helped to achieve the performance potential of such a powerful drive powertrain and a powerful front-wheel drive.

Transmissions MAZDASPEED3 has been optimized gear ratios greater from second to fifth gear, take full advantage of the torque curve of the engine off. The gears are the fifth and sixth overdrive ratios and fourth speed is greater than the fourth speed of the previous year, which helps the engine stay in its peak powerband through the RPM range. Taller transmission normally allow greater speed, the MAZDASPEED3 is electronically limited to 155 mph.
