Electric Cars Now30 million pounds for the electric car charging points

The UK streets and parking lots could see thousands of charging points for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles thanks to £ 30 million of public funding.

Transportation Secretary Andrew Adonis, today invited cities and businesses to join together to bid for money to help fund the installation of charging points in the streets, parking areas and in commercial, retail and recreation.

The initiative - called Plugged-In Places - support the development of three to six cities and regions electric car through the UK to act as pioneers of electric car technology. The experiences of these places will inform the future development of a national infrastructure pricing.

Overall, the government is investing nearly £ 400 to encourage the development, manufacture, and use the next generation of vehicles with very low carbon. Administered by the Office of EFV This support is targeted to create new jobs in an area of low carbon cars and reduce emissions from road transport in the United Kingdom.

Transportation Secretary Andrew Adonis said: "The UK can be a world leader in electric cars and low carbon which is why the government has already committed approximately £ 400 million support to encourage the development and adoption of vehicles ultra low emissions.

"Our goal is carbon for electric cars and small to be a feature of everyday life on the roads of the United Kingdom within five years. There is still much work to do, however Plugged-In Places is a step very important to put us firmly on the path towards a low carbon future. "

Encourage businesses to get involved, Minister Pat McFadden said: "The move to form lower carbon transport is a milestone for the automotive industry, opening new opportunities for British companies existing automobile and having the potential to create new jobs and new industries, such around the charging infrastructure.

"I urge British companies to get involved and to seize these new opportunities for growth and employment.

"Our objective is Great Britain to become a world center for the development of low carbon transport, manufacturing and delivery - the government supports companies who want to help them get there."

The total number and location of the charging infrastructure supported by this initiative will depend on local needs and projects. The intention is that candidates will compete with the government's investments.

These plans build on existing measures to support alternative fuels and today the government announced the seven programs that will benefit from £ 500,000 of funding through the Infrastructure Program Alternative Fuels Grant. These plans will see the provision of 72 points and four electric charge gas refueling stations in the regions across England.

Funding up to £ 30 million will be made available to consortia in England, Scotland Wales and Ireland region, composed of local government, enterprises, distributors and suppliers of electricity and other organizations as the GDR. The funds will be available in two phases.

The consortium will demonstrate how their plans are consistent with other government objectives such as improving local air quality and create local incentives to further encourage adoption of electric vehicles.

The new Office for National Low Emission Vehicle (OLEV) will deliver the Plugged-In Seats Infrastructure Framework. OLEV is a new team of Cross-government, bringing together existing policies and sources of funding to conduct the execution of policies. Located within the Ministry of Transport, it incorporates policies, people and funds DfT, BIS and DECC.

OLEV priorities will accelerate the adoption and delivery of ultra-low.
