Consumer Reports Trucks

Consumer Reports TrucksReports reliability ratings from consumers for cars, trucks, vans and: are they reliable?

CR survey may over / underestimate the reliability of some cars, because people who possess them are not homogeneous. ... many people have a subconscious need to justify buying a Japanese car in a household, and they might suggest a higher reliability is the reason they bought it. Because of cognitive dissonance, they tend to ignore or minimize anything that attacks this state of mind. We see many people who vehemently defend the reliability of Japanese cars and smears of others.

I would not rely on the ratings from Consumer Reports. The survey is sent to a group of subscribers who interpret the instructions in any way they want to give their opinion on how to react. Even those who follow the instructions to the letter may provide misleading answers. I attended several of these investigations. The first year I had my latest car, the manufacturer voluntarily provided a new clutch and steering wheel, although I have not had any problems with those components. Other people have when it was considered a gesture of goodwill. I also have new brake discs and a starter motor for exactly the same reason. On the direction of CR, I (and all others that, with this model) did the work on these components, which makes subjects 'failure' by CR assessments. Did I mention that I have never had any problem with any of these items? It was 15 years ago and I still have the car with the same parties.

This is obviously not an issue - it's an ax to grind.

If you do not like it when a foreign car is in first place in one of their tests, you have 1-3 choices:
1. Understanding the tests are subjective, and CR has its own methodology
2. demand more of your American companies instead of encouraging them to build crap by buying shit 'em
3. STFU

If you have a problem, go out onto the consumer, not the magazine that the consumer is reading, capische?
