The drive 541S Jensen British Classic Car Manual Values
A tremendous amount of interest in classic cars a few years ago, has caused many to be published and prices to escalate beyond belief.
It was at a time when an Aston Martin Zagato, racing car (which has never won a race), sold over a million and a half pounds. type 'E' Jaguar commanded as much as £ 90,000 for what is mass production of the car (though many were made during 12 years of production). It is not surprising that many fans were unable to afford interesting classical.
Since those heady days of the situation has radically changed, recession, has led to more reasonable prices for most conventional cars.
However, even when prices were a bit ridiculous, there was an incredibly distinctive, the car of the early 60s that has been neglected, available at a very reasonable cost, and is still undervalued.
By hand, with very few maintenance problems, and best of all no body rust to worry about! It is one of very few classic cars, which can be used effectively as a form of commuting - I had been driving for over 25 years and now my son still uses it.
I'm referring to Jensen cars early 60s, designed by Eric Neale, and done when Richard and Alan Jensen owned the company. In particular, the Jensen CV8 (this is the model before the Interceptor) with the massive 6-liter V8 engine and the 541S.
The CV8 was the fastest car of all four seats in 1965, and I drove out my special version, commissioned by Hardy Amies, every day until I emigrated to the United Kingdom a few years ago.
Another favorite is the thoroughbred of the classic English 541. Especially, the last model made before the CV8, with 4 straight six liter engine Austin Princes, especially the version of the manual drive 541S Jensen.
Classic Car Show Awards
For many years these Jensen cars were not expensive compared with other classics of the period. Very strange really when one considers that in the most important auto shows in the past, Jensen has won all the best prices.
Given all the well known brands, the Jensen Owners Club in collaboration with CV8 famous Dave Horton's, have won; Car of the issue "or" Best of the master class 'and' Best stand of the club and so on . It can hardly be an attractive price classic car that has not been won by a Jensen!
Pioneers
These awards are not really surprising that the Jensen brothers based at West Bromwich extremely fine hand built cars. They also pioneered the first to provide disc brakes all along, first with four wheel drive (on a CV8), one of the first to use the tunnel for the design of the body.
They were also well known and respected for his ideas on security. The 541S was the first car with seat belts as standard, they also provided very soft padded areas above and below the dashboard. Door handles and window winders, were all in the panels back out of danger.
They won the silver medal for a job coach at Earls Court, and the 541R in 1957, according to tests by 'The Bus' they had produced the fastest four-seater car of the day.
Over the years their fiberglass and polyester resin coach work has stood the test of time remarkably well.
Maintenance
Care and maintenance of these cars proved much easier than many other classics, and this statement applies to some of the most modern cars. There is a very enthusiastic owners club that provides technical information useful. Most parts are not too difficult to find through the Jensen Owners Club. The chassis is built like a tank and cuts fiberglass body to all those rust problems.
