How much is an engine of the BMW 5 Series? I've been looking into the Lexus LS 400S and the BMW 5 Series years ranging 90-95. Ive heard great things about the engine but the Lexus being shot six-cylinder BMW say that? How does the mileage that I can put on the car without having to worry about major problems?
Well all BMW engines are great. Here are the ones they offer for the 5-series.
3.0-liter double overhead cam (DOHC), line 24-valve 230-horsepower six-cylinder engine with composite magnesium / aluminum engine block, Valvetronic, double VANOS variable valve timing, continuously
3.0-liter double overhead cam (DOHC), line 24-valve turbocharged 300 horsepower engine 6-cylinder bi-turbo technology, piezo direct injection and Double-VANOS variable valve timing in continuous
4.8 liter, 360 hp 32-valve V-8 engine with four camshafts, the engine block and cylinder heads aluminum Valvetronic system taken two storey air manifold, and Double-VANOS variable valve timing Continuous
They are all very good engines. Each of them would be good if properly cared for 200,000 miles. Good luck and make sure you get one that has not been beaten too hard and has been properly maintained.
There were three engines available in the BMW Series FIVE. There was a 525i, a 530i, 535i and a 6-cylinder engine. Then there was a V-8 engine in the 540i. The first V-8 engine had some development problems. The in-line 6 cylinders were and still are, very close to the ball if it is properly maintained and repaired. 6, cylinders should be good for 200,000 miles if properly maintained.
Series 5 6-cylinder is also considered bulletproof. I do not know about the V8 (540)
Setup Inline, German precision, the same basic design that dates back two decades, the distribution chain. It is a bit low power compared to the V8 or the Lexus. Just make sure it wasn't beaten, and it has been maintained.
BMW makes engine sound. there should be no problem with them. that your concern should be the transmission of these cars. some of their aggressive drive, the test drive, make sure that proper shift your mechanic and have them look good on paper before signing for a used car
I have a 89 BMW 530 and I can tell you that I love the motor on this thing. It leaks a little oil but it still has great power. Until you find something that someone has taken over, the BMW engines are good to go.
A BMW engine is a damn good engine. Lexus is good, but not as good as the BMW.
the engine is great that I have another 27 miles to the gallon and gas has fallen;]
They may look good, but they are horrible on gas since it has 12 cylinders.
