The series is broadcast on the same time as and covered topics like Beakman World, indeed share a crew member, editor / writer / director Michael Gross. He made an appearance on the Disney Channel's New Mickey Mouse Club episode in its forty-eighth Anything Can Happen Day. Before the show Bill Nye had worked with Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future: The Animated Series, where Nye assistant played Doc Brown and demonstrated several experiments.
Bill Nye The Science Guy has been compared to a modern Mr. Wizard. Bill TV persona is a door wide and thin scientific laboratory coat and a bow tie. He mixed serious science of everyday things with fast action and humor. Each show begins with Bill walk on the plateau called "Nye Labs", which is filled with images of scientists (including many "science" contraptions announced dramatically, as "The revolt of the Science! ") relating to the topic of the show. Most episodes contain a parody song artwork and music video in the "Soundtrack of science" with "Not That Bad Records, substituting a scientific overview of the episode to the lyrics of a song People. Each show ends with the bill, explaining his departure in a description of an intelligent activity on the subject. Credits sometimes rolled next to a series of waterfalls of the episode. Other times, the falls are displayed when they actually happened.
Another popular member of the distribution is the facilitator Pat Cashman, who knew Nye of his time on Almost Live!. Some advertisers who subbed in Cashman include Ernie Anderson, Gary Owens, and Brian Cummings. In 1996, Bill has appeared on Cartoon Network's talk show Space Ghost Coast to Coast in its twenty-fourth episode, Boo! Michael Norman. A year later, he made an appearance on the long-term neighborhood PBS series Mister Rogers'.
