Marketplace | 1970 Boss 302 For SalePosted on June 25, 2010. The Ford Mustang, how a pony has turned into a stallion! In March 1964 Ford made his debut as one of the most popular cars ever built. It was the car that started the craze wagon rides and gave us a peek into what the world knows that the era of muscle cars. Although it was built in 1964 it was designated as a 1965. Those built from March till July 31, 1964 are known in 1964 2.1 and Mustangs were somewhat different from those built from August 1 and later. Most differences are internal and the body are identical except for the hood to be rolled under in the past. It is basically a Falcon with a new body and bucket seats. Those built after July 1965 are known and have been a little more updated with things like an alternator, adjustable passenger seat and a number of other technical refinements. The inside horse horses running was also proposed.
The Mustang probably had the biggest debut ever made a car as it was presented at the New York World's Fair and was the lead car for the Indianapolis 500. Over 4 million people visited the showrooms and 22,000 were ordered the first day. It sold 417,000 the first year that broke all previous records in auto sales.
The body styles were the coupe and convertible. No fastbacks were built until around 1965, was in August. The engines were the U code 170 CI 6 cylinder, F code 260 V8 and the D code 289 V8 with 210 horsepower. The GT was released in April 1965 and was offered in all three body styles. You had the choice of code A 225 HP or K code 271 HP V8. The 271 HP almost qualified as muscle. The first Shelby Mustang, all fastbacks, was released in 1965 and was really a hotrod with no back seat and jumped to 306 horsepower.
1966 did not see many changes in the body except the pony in the grill, cap side trim and restyled. The 350 GT was released in 1966 and 1001 Hertz had ordered them to hire cars or "Rent-a Racers" as they were known. Many of Sunday, they could be found on the Dragstrip or road race. There was a rumor at the time when a number of them have been rented and exchanged with the motor engines of the tenant and returned to the dealer. True or not quite a story. It was also first year for the High Country Special sold in Colorado and Wyoming. The Shelby GT350 was available with a 289cid which made 390hp and probably qualified for muscle car. In 1967, the Mustang was the first body redesign, although it was not a major problem, mostly trim and grill. The biggest change was on the tailgate, where the top went all the way to the rear of the car. The cab has a rear window for the first time.
It was the last year of 289 Hi-Po and the first year for the 390cid and 428cid engines. The GT350 had the 289cid Hi-Po while the GT500 got the 428cid. The 390cid could be done in all three body styles. This was the only year for the Greater Toronto that had an automatic transmission and could have with the 289 or 390 in all three body styles. Only 400 High Country Specials were built in 1967.
The Chevrolet Camaro, Mercury Cougar, Pontiac Firebird and Plymouth Barracuda were all in the same class as the Mustang and cut into their sales, but still exceeded the sales of their nearest competitor, the Cougars by a margin of three to one .
In 1968, has changed little in appearance from 1967. The 427cid of Cobra fame of it was released in GT. Equipped with disc brakes, racing tires and the suspension was the heavy race ready right off the showroom. Bob Tasca Mustang racing efforts to build the 428 Cobra Jet was rewarded by Ford Building 2817, instead of running only 50 original, he asked. This was the last year for the special high-and country California Special was available for this year alone. All discounts have been cut.
In 1969, things really changed, the line engine had seven different engines sizes and although the body had t.
