BMW unwraps the new BMW 1 Series Convertible-All BMW has finally unveiled its 1 Series Convertible three months after announcing it would build a coupe version of its small family car.
The new BMW 1 Series Convertible is the fourth offspring of the series after a three and five door versions and the Coupe. The new 1 Series convertible has a fabric roof that opens and closes in 22 seconds at speeds up to 25 mph.
Regarding the engine, the BMW 1 Series Convertible will have five engine options --- one diesel and four petrol. The 120d diesel is a 175bhp common-rail unit producing 258 pounds feet of pulling power. Meanwhile the petrol versions include 141bhp 2.0 liter 118i, a 168bhp 2.0 liter 120i, a 215bhp 3.0 liter six-cylinder 125i and 302bhp twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder 135i.
The new BMW Convertible also possess new features such as an air conditioning system from the 3 Series Convertible is recognizable once the roof is open and change its mode of carriage. The convertible roof of the back triggers the ventilation system to respond less to interior temperature and the temperature outside, including sunlight to determine the intensity of ventilation required.
To improve security, two poles extend behind the rear seats in a split second when sensors detect a possible flip. This action will protect occupants in rollovers.
BMW also launched a program called "Dynamic effective" which would ensure that all of its Convertible Series 1 are fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. Part of the program is the braking making use of a generator smart and a single type of battery that recovers the energy lost by the engine especially during braking or when using the engine to slow the car.
There is also a technology called start / stop which saves fuel by stopping the engine such as when the vehicle starts to stop at red lights. A gearshift indicator is also available and informs the driver of the most fuel economy vehicles to use.
Another novelty is the new air conditioning pump which squeezed the pump decouples so that only 10 percent of normal power used to drive the pump. The best thing about this pump is that it prevents the wasting of fuel.
And finally, all models except the 135i has electronic power steering, which operates only when needed unlike conventional hydraulic steering systems therefore reducing its energy consumption is usually from the engine.
The German automaker and producer of high quality BMW brakes , BMW AG has not yet made any announcement about the price of the new BMW 1 Series Convertible. There is also no timetable yet on when the car reaches showrooms in the United Kingdom.
